The Ultimate Printable Unicorn Toilet Paper Roll Craft
This is an easy toilet paper roll craft for kids that you can do instead of throwing away your toilet paper rolls. Recycled crafts are the best because they are cheap or free and good for the environment! Plus everyone loves unicorns! There’s a free printable included as well.
Make a Unicorn Out of a Toilet Paper Roll
When I first started teaching Kindergarten, it became apparent that I needed to start collecting toilet paper rolls ASAP. The teacher next door had a huge garbage bag full of them in her classroom and never seemed to run out of ways to use them.
Kids can build structures out of them, marble tracks, make musical instruments... The possibilities are endless! I remember one of the Grade 2 teachers upstairs had a bunch of toilet paper rolls and craft ideas ready for kids to create if they finished their work early.
So often the art we do with our kids at home and school is on a flat piece of paper; It is something to be hung up on the wall and looked at. As a teacher, it is definitely hard for me to branch out and do art that can’t go on the wall. I just love to see everyone’s drawing or painting up on the bulletin board!
I’m starting to make an effort to make crafts with my kids that they are welcome to play with. They think it’s so much fun! We made this nature crown craft and took pictures of the kids wearing them too. If I really want to remember the activity I take some pictures to look back on later. Not all art needs to be on display on the wall.
I hope you enjoy this printable!
Why toilet paper roll crafts are the best
As I’m writing this, we are in social-isolation mode due to the Coronavirus… and dude! We are going through toilet paper at an alarming rate! I guess it’s because the kids and I are always at home. I figured it was time to start making some fun things out of the rolls because recycled and upcycled crafts are king.
Why go to the store for supplies when you can use something in your home that would otherwise be thrown away? I also love the fact that if something happens to a toilet paper roll it’s no big deal. If my daughter spills her applesauce on hers I won’t be upset. On the other hand, if she spills her applesauce on special watercolour paper from the art store I might cry a little bit inside.

In my previous post where we made an easy unicorn sensory bin, I mentioned how much kids love all things unicorn. They dress up as unicorns, draw unicorns, pretend to be unicorns. For little kids unicorns are life. This craft rocked their tiny worlds. They also loved my easy 2-step mermaid sensory bin. So much fun.
Materials:
How to make your unicorn craft:
Print off the Unicorn Toilet Paper Roll Sheet
Decide if you would like to paint your toilet paper roll or colour the rectangular paper and glue it around the entire roll.
Colour the sheet in. What colours will you use for your unicorn?
Cut out the pieces
Glue them onto your toilet paper roll
My kids at home love bringing their unicorns to their princess castle toys and using them as puppets. You can also put them on a shelf as decorations… but playing with them is so much more fun!
I hope you enjoy this craft and that your littles have fun too!
